There’s something extra special about creating branding for a place you see every other day, so driving through the heart of Kalamunda always puts a smile on my dial when I see my work taking pride of place at the Zig Zag Cultural Centre and Gallery.

The Shire of Kalamunda is a lush, green part of the state and trees have always been a big feature in everything they do. When approached to work with them on branding their new Cultural Centre and Gallery, the Shire wanted to keep their overall hills-lifestyle vibe going, but with more of a modern edge than some of the older signage gracing the town at the time.

Colour played a big part in this for me – no reason we couldn’t keep it green without using a funky, bright pop of neon for the Cultural Centre! Using some lovely, clean looking design work with the letters ZZCC and pairing it with the wood textures that nod to the Kalamunda styling, I think we came up with the perfect blend of old meets new.

The Gallery itself took a slightly more sophisticated path, playing with a little image magic – merging a branch and gumleaf with a paintbrush in a nice swish of inky texture.

You can find both designs at home at the top of Haynes Street Kalamunda. Why not pop by for a relaxed lunch and check out the area? I love it.
