Bitters & Twists

Nothing excites me more than creating a whole new look for a brand that's a true passion project; and Bitters & Twists is most definitely that! If you've ever thought you knew everything there was to know about drinking, you clearly haven't met Krzysztof yet! This guy really knows his stuff. An alcohol afficionado and cocktail enthusiast, the Bitters & Twists brand was created around Krzysztof's passion and appreciation for classy, old-school, traditional cocktails (think the likes of sloe gin, whisky and absinthe in darkened prohibition bars) paired with his immense knowledge of the history, flavours and potential these spirits bring to the table. The two of us worked closely together on this one. It was important to both of us that the logo represented everything the brand is about; accuracy! Yep, that's right. Whilst we could have slapped a cliche martini glass with an olive on there, we instead focused on using a cocktail that truly symbolised Bitters & Twists...and it was spot on. Whilst I taught Krzystztof about the importance of colours and fonts, he very thoroughly educated me on the use of correct glassware and garnishes to make a drink just right! Apparently a cherry was the correct one […]

Lemon Drops

Now, I don't know about you, but I absolutely love the thought of a handmade, artisan gift. So much time, thought and skill goes into something lovingly crafted by hand that you can almost feel the energy of it's creator poured into it...and that's exactly how I felt about Tina Lee, of Perth-based business Lemon Drops, amazing creations. (Yes! I can hand-on-heart say that I was a very satisfied customer!)  Designing a brand that was funky and fresh, just like her stunning hand burnt pyrographic cutting boards and barware, was more pleasure than work.Tina is a truly inspiring, talented and generous woman, putting in up to 15 hours (!!!) of painstaking work into producing each her unique masterpieces, BY HAND. Then, after all that hard work, she donates a huge chunk of her earnings to those less fortunate then her. What a freakin' legend. It was only right that her business' look shared the same vibrant energy as it's creator. Reflecting the artisan nature of her work with brush and handwritten style lettering, crowned with it's bright and juicy namesake, the Lemon Drops logo stands out in a crowd. Good use of Tina's product photos and wooden textures really tie the whole theme together and let her […]

GAIN Inc.

The ladies from GAIN Inc. came to me with an exisiting logo from the early days (around 2000) of their group forming, in need of a freshen-up to better reflect the direction they have developed in over time. GAIN Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to increase awareness and act as a voice on all gynaecological issues and cancers. Whilst their original logo certainly worked to use a little humour to "lighten the mood" on some very serious matters and create a bit of a talking point (which is important for such a taboo subject!), it became apparent very quickly that it did not fit the desired feelings of professional, modern, trustworthy and discreet that they were aiming for. It was time for an upgrade! With a desire to have more appeal to the younger demographic than they had previously (and help raise awareness from a younger age) it was very important to keep the look quite age neutral. As it is (obviously) a very feminine-based organisation and the ladies didn't want to drift entirely away from their existing look, we decided to run with that same gorgeous, bold, punch of pink as the base of the overall visual theme. To contrast it, I brought in […]

Cottontails and Whiskers

The Cottontails and Whiskers branding was so much fun to work on; mostly because it involved a lot of research* looking up adorable pictures of kittens and bunnies! Teagan, the business owner and fur-mum of many fluffy children (including 3 cheeky cats and 3 cuddly rabbits!) wanted something cute and fun, just like the pets she caters for. As the name suggests, bunnies are one of the main animals she provides products for, so I was focused on finding a way to include a subtle cottontail character into the logo design. Throw in some hand-drawn text and we have a bright and playful design that suits Teagan’s brand perfectly! Along with the logo design, I also teamed up with Teagan to work on many of the graphics on her website, including some stylised icons to represent each animal category (again; a treat to draw!) and some social media branding for the Facebook page. *it may not have been actual research. Cats. Internet. It was inevitable. Find out more about Teagan and her fluffballs! Find them on Facebook

Zeus Electrical

After being overwhelmed with local electricians using plugs, cables and sockets in their branding, I was determined to give Eddie of Zeus Electrical a logo that differed from the others! Needless to say that he’d already done half of the work for me by choosing such an excellent business name. Zeus, greek god of the sky and thunder, and wielder of a mighty lightning bolt – what better imagery was there to run with?! Once we'd created quite a strong and solid logo to suit his business' vibe, I carried through the elements of his visual branding board into his printed goods (business cards and invoices), website, social media pages and online advertising. We also had a play with some cheeky wording in his adverts and online posts, to add a little fun and a touch of humanity (he is a god, after all!) to an otherwise quite staunch and corporate industry. A strong brand is all about standing out from the crowd, and that's entirely what we managed to do with Eddie! Find out more about Eddie and Zeus Electrical Visit the website Find him on Facebook

Essential Elements PT

Jonathan is yet another client that came to me looking for branding that didn’t mirror all of the clichés of his industry. As a Personal Trainer, he did not want his brand to be lost amidst the sea of barbels, kettle bell and body builder silhouettes already flooding the market…and frankly, neither did I! Essential Elements PT focuses on more than just working out. Jonathan takes a more holistic approach in his personal training and offers his clients a chance to improve their overall well-being, focusing on the three key elements of fitness, nutrition and lifestyle. After some discussion about the workings of his business, it was determined that Essential Elements is about helping clients to understand that small and simple steps can be taken to reach their end goals – it’s simply a science! From this point, I came up with the tagline “the simple science of a healthy life” and continued the scientific theme through to the imagery where I used icons of beakers filled with 3 different coloured elements. Fitness (red), nutrition (green) and lifestyle (blue). Jonathan had confided to me previously that he was a massive science buff, so the design reflected himself personally as much as his business.
